-Background-History:
Verene was born the oldest daughter to a family of witches from the south. The Laurant family line goes back to when her ancestors were first brought over during the slave trade, and they settled in Louisiana. Her roots run deep with the French Creole, and with it came magic usually only used by cajun witches.
They grew up poor, having to work hard for their money, and being in the south and African American at that, made it especially difficult. Still, the Laurants were a proud family. Through hard work and determination, they were able to make a name for themselves. It wasn’t easy though. You see, the Laurents were part of a coven of cajun witches that happened to be enemies of a nearby coven. New Orleans was essentially split in half, with the Laurants being major figures in the cajun coven, and the Durands being major figures in the other. The feud has gone back centuries. Having a disagreement with the practice of magic, the two covens never saw eye to eye, and the hatred the two covens had for one another only grew, until it was all anyone knew.So much so, they’ve been in a centuries-old war with the other coven.
When the sisters all came of age, Verene’s little sister Desiree moved to Oregon. Wanting to get away from the war. It was just Verene and Yvonne then, and Verene married Anton Dubois when she was young. He gave her two beautiful daughters before he, and several other coven members, succumbed to a sickness that eventually took his life. It wasn’t until later they learned that the sickness was caused by a spell the enemy coven had cast on several of their coven members. It was around this time Verene’s youngest sister, Yvonne had two children of her own. Never telling Verene who their father was, but Yvonne couldn’t keep it quiet forever. A modernized tale of Romeo and Juliet, Yvonne had fallen in love with a member of the enemy coven and he’d given her two beautiful children. Verene was torn, having a sense of duty to the coven, but also loving her sister, she ultimately chose her family and kept her sister’s secret.
She often wonders what would have happened if she’d told someone, if they might have been able to protect Yvonne. They’d been found out by the enemy coven, and they had not taken kindly to Yvonne or her lover. So much so, they killed them both for it. Having found out about the two of them and that they’d had children together. Verene protected her niece and nephew who were too young to remember what happened. It sparked a need for revenge in Verene, and she would get her revenge in due time. In the meantime, she had four children to raise by herself, and raise them she did. She never remarried after Anton died, having loved him, she’d be faithful to him until they could reunite.
As of five years ago, Verene finally got her revenge on those that planned her sister’s murder. Setting them up, she set a trap with the help of a few other members before she unleashed all her fury. There were no survivors. Knowing there would be consequences, she packed her family up and moved them to Oregon to be with Desiree and her family to a town called Xander’s Cross. Since settling in the small town, Verene opened up a southern style restaurant that is voodoo themed, and has named it Yvonne’s Ame. She’s quite happy to be cooking in the kitchen know, but she finds herself oftentimes going stir crazy, and wondering how long her family will stay safe before the Durands make their way to the North West. She knows it’s only a matter of time...
