Mayor Rowan Starkwood (1961-2019)
Mayor Rowan Starkwood was a member of the Isaneqwe Tribe native to Xander's Cross. He became heavily involved in tribal politics as a teenager and even participated in "
The Longest Walk" when he was 18. After getting a law degree from the University of Oregon, he returned to Xander's Cross as a local attorney who represented the interest of local tribe members and defended the town's interests against businesses who sought to buy out the land. He fell in love with a young woman, Laurel Locklear, who was a paralegal at the time, and the two soon married. He became a prosecutor in a nearby city, then the ADA, then DA, and eventually was elected mayor of his home town.
Those who are also part of the tribe will know that his mother was a white woman and a werewolf. His father was a shapeshifter who took the form of a coyote. Rowan looked more like his father, but got his mother's shifting ability. So, not only was he involved with the tribe, but he was also very involved with the local werewolf pack, and was seen by many as the "alpha." With his death, that community will be seeking a new leader.
Laurel Starkwood (1964- )
Laurel Starkwood is a woman of sharp wit and gentle manners. She is a devoted mother to her children and was even more devoted to her husband and the city. She struggled with his rise to fame at first, however, she soon found that she could use his position as mayor to further her own pet projects: the Community Center and [scouting program]. She also created the scholarship program which fully funds the freshman year of one Isaneqwe tribe-member at an Oregon based college of their choice.
She has been devastated by the loss of her husband and has been described by friends as appearing "dazed and upset." She has not yet announced arrangements for a funeral or whether it will be made public.
